Arsenal’s hunt for a new sporting director is still ongoing, with the club hopeful of making the right choice for the role rather than a quick one.
It comes after Edu Gaspar’s shock resignation in early November, calling a day on his second stint with the club.
The Brazilian had first featured as a player for the Gunners before becoming a director, heading up their transfer strategy and getting the men’s team back to the top of the Premier League.
While Edu has since left Arsenal, it calls for a slight change in direction, with the next sporting director still unknown.
Plenty of names have been linked, however the latest of those is Dan Ashworth, who recently became available.

Arsenal lineup Dan Ashworth move to replace Edu Gaspar
Just days ago, Dan Ashworth left Manchester United in a move that was deemed mutual by all parties, which came as a shock.
The Red Devils pushed hard to poach the director from Newcastle, who was placed on Gardening Leave for six months as the Magpies demanded compensation to let him go from his contract.
That was eventually reached, with the region of £2million-to-£3million paid for his services by the time he moved to Old Trafford.
However, after just five months, Ashworth was let go in a surprise move that reshuffled the structure of the club.
That, in turn, may have presented an opportunity to Arsenal that wasn’t there before, with the chance to hire the highly-rated director.
According to reports from The Sun, Ashworth is a “target” for the Gunners, with claims that he has “caught their eye” as they look at possible options for the role.
It is also mentioned that Arsenal chief Richard Garlick knows Ashworth well as the pair once worked alongside each other at West Brom many years ago.
It remains to be seen if a formal offer will be made to the director, as options are being assessed still.

Every Dan Ashworth signing at Manchester United
While Ashworth only spent a short amount of time at Man United, he did manage to have the summer transfer to help secure some deals.
Five first-team players in total came to Old Trafford in that short stint, with some mixed signs on them early on.
| Player | Price (including add-ons) |
| Joshua Zirkzee | £36.5m |
| Matthijs de Ligt | £42.8m |
| Noussair Mazraoui | £17m |
| Leny Yoro | £60m |
| Manuel Ugarte | £50m |
While it’s proven to be an expensive few windows for Manchester United yet again, the outcome of those signings is yet to be seen.
Whether Ashworth’s only transfer window in charge will be viewed as positive remains to be seen, though it’s been tough to have any influence at the club in such a short spell.
That may change, should an offer at Arsenal come rolling in over the coming weeks and months.
