Arsene Wenger spent many successful years at Arsenal and arguably helped to change the landscape of English football.
Wenger made some top signings during his spell as Arsenal manager, often unearthing incredible talent from unknown areas of the globe such as Kolo Toure and Freddie Ljungberg.
He also had the ability to transform good players into ‘world class’ players as he did with the likes of Thierry henry and Patrick Vieira.
His longevity was justified by winning three Premier League titles and seven FA Cups during his 22 year spell at the club and he brought up his 1000th game as Gunners boss in March 2014 but it proved to be a day to forget for Wenger.

Arsene Wenger suffered ‘nightmare’ on 1000th game in charge of Arsenal
It was perhaps his darkest day as Arsenal manager in what should have been a celebration of 1000 games in charge of the club.
As per Arsenal’s official website, Wenger described the 6-0 defeat by Chelsea as a ‘nightmare’ and took full responsibility for the embarrassment at the hands of Jose Mourinho’s side.
Arsenal fell 2-0 behind in just seven minutes and then a moment of huge controversy as Kieran Gibbs was sent off for a handball that was Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s illegal intervention.
Down to ten men, the Gunners suffered and eventually lost 6-0 in what was Mourinho’s biggest win as Chelsea boss at the time and a haunting afternoon for Wenger.
Speaking to BBC Sport, Wenger described the defeat as “A scar in your heart that you never forget.” Arsenal fans have certainly never forgot that day at Stamford Bridge.
Wenger endured a wretched record against Mourinho
Mikel Arteta broke a record Mourinho couldn’t by winning nine London derbies in a single season but the former Gunners boss Wenger had no such luck against the Portuguese manager.
Mourinho tormented Wenger over many years and didn’t lose any of his first 13 matches against Arsenal during his spells at Chelsea.
| Matches | Wins | Draws | Defeats | Points per match |

Wenger’s first victory over Mourinho came in the 2015 Community Shield at Wembley when Oxlade-Chamberlain struck the winner following an assist from Theo Walcott.
The only Premier League win for Wenger came when Mourinho was manager of Manchester United, the Gunners won 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium back in 2017 when Granit Xhaka and Danny Welbeck were on target.
