Arsenal are on the cusp of something very special under the stewardship of manager Mikel Arteta.
Having joined the club in December 2019, taking over from Unai Emery and the team bereft of confidence and structure, Arteta has transformed Arsenal into the Champions League contenders they currently are.
Part of that success has been the relationships that Arteta has built with his players, Riccardo Calafiori has opened up on Arteta’s man management whilst Ben White also has a great rapport with the manager.
Results on the pitch have reflected the togetherness of the Arsenal first-team squad and the Spaniard achieved something in March 2023 that even the greats of Arsene Wenger and Jose Mourinho couldn’t manage in the Premier League.

Mikel Arteta broke Premier League history in 2023
Following a comfortable 4-1 win over Crystal Palace in March 2023, Arsenal became the first team to win nine London derbies in a season during the 2022-23 campaign.
The Gunners fell agonisingly short of the title that season having moved eight points clear of Manchester City following that win at the Emirates Stadium over Palace.
The Gunners had already completed the double over Fulham and Tottenham Hotspur that season, as well as beating Crystal Palace on the opening day and Brentford, Chelsea and West Ham along the way.
In total the Gunners ended the season with ten London derby victories and that record is yet to be broken with the likes of Wenger and Mourinho trailing in Arteta’s wake.
Mikel Arteta’s London Derby record at Arsenal
Arsenal achieved a 36 year record against Spurs this season with three consecutive wins in the North London Derby and Arteta’s dominance over London has been extraordinary since he took the reigns.
The Gunners have struggled in matches against big sides or in hostile atmospheres before Arteta took over but his London Derby record is phenomenal across all competitions.
| Opponent | Played | Wins | Draws | Losses |
| Chelsea | 13 | 8 | 3 | 2 |
| West Ham | 12 | 7 | 2 | 3 |
| Tottenham Hotspur | 11 | 7 | 1 | 3 |
| Crystal Palace | 11 | 7 | 3 | 1 |
| Brentford | 8 | 6 | 1 | 1 |
| Fulham | 7 | 3 | 3 | 1 |
| Watford | 3 | 3 | 0 | 0 |
| Overall | 65 | 41 | 13 | 11 |
Ironically, despite the clear success that Arteta has in these feisty encounters it has been dropped points against the likes of Fulham and more recently West Ham United that has ultimately cost the Spaniard in Premier League title races.
However, if this sort of form continues against the London teams, that elusive first title won’t be too far away from Arsenal’s manager and his supporters.
