How much prize money Arsenal would’ve earned if they had played and won their Club World Cup opener

Arsenal are missing out on the riches of the Club World Cup.

FIFA’s revamped club competition kicked off in the United States over the weekend, and eight games have been held so far, at the time of writing.

Bayern Munich picked up a statement 10-0 win against Auckland City, while European champions Paris Saint-Germain smashed Atletico Madrid 4-0.

Arsenal would’ve likely won their first game in the Club World Cup if they had made it into the competition, but unfortunately for them, they haven’t.

But, what if they were competing in the competition – how much money would they have earned with a win in the opening game?

The prize money Arsenal have missed out on as opening Club World Cup games take place

Arsenal earned £97 million from their participation in the Champions League last season.

The Gunners made it into the semi-final of the competition, where they were knocked out by the eventual winners, Paris Saint-Germain.

Despite not winning the Champions League, Arsenal earned a higher prize money than Tottenham did for winning the Europa League.

That revenue could help out in transfers this summer, which is why it is a shame that they aren’t in the Club World Cup.

As reported by TBR Football, a win in any club’s opening game of the competition, or any group stage game for that matter, will boost their income by £1.5 million. A draw would see them bank £800,000.

The likes of Bayern, PSG and Chelsea have all made £1.5 million so far after they won their opening games of the competition.

We’re convinced that Arsenal would’ve won too if they were in the Club World Cup, but sadly, they didn’t make it.

The real reason why Arsenal are not in the Club World Cup

Arsenal had the opportunity to qualify for the Club World Cup just over a year ago.

The competition is reserved for the best teams in the world, and for the sides in Europe, it depends on their performance in the Champions League over the previous four years.

In 2024, the door was open for Arsenal to qualify – all they needed to do was win the Champions League after making it into the quarter-finals.

Unfortunately for Mikel Arteta and his men, they suffered a defeat to Bayern Munich. RB Salzburg made it into the Club World Cup instead of the Gunners then.

We hope Arsenal will qualify for the next edition of the competition.
