Ian Wright issues bizarre match rating for Noni Madueke after watching Arsenal’s star vs Ghana

Ian Wright seemed to be very impressed by Arsenal winger Noni Madueke against Ghana, despite the star struggling on the right wing for England.

The Three Lions were held to a frustrating goalless draw with Ghana, but remain in the driving seat to book their spot in the Round of 32.

Madueke and Declan Rice both started in the 0-0 draw against Ghana, with both Eberechi Eze and Bukayo Saka coming off the bench.

However, none of them could help make the difference, as Thomas Tuchel’s side were forced to settle for a point in Boston.

Ian Wright gives Noni Madueke a strong match rating vs Ghana

Ian Wright has given Noni Madueke a 7.5/10 match rating for his performance in England’s 0-0 draw against Ghana.

England fans also enjoyed Madueke’s performance; however, the winger ultimately struggled to make anything happen for the Three Lions.

Speaking about the individual England stars after the match, Gary Neville said: “Madueke, I think he’s a threat.

Wright was in agreement with the former Premier League defender and added: “Yeah, I think he’s a 7.5 or 8?

“I think he did well; those wingers are going to be the ones to change around, but he stayed on. That will be really good for his confidence.”

In 83 minutes, the Arsenal winger failed to register either of his two attempts on target, completed just 21 passes, and lost possession 18 times against Ghana.

Therefore, it’s hard to agree with Wright and Neville that Madueke did enough to warrant such a high rating.

England need Bukayo Saka back ASAP

Madueke is an impressive dribbler, but England need a player who can pick the lock against a defence as compact as Ghana’s was against them.

England are very unlikely to win anything this summer whilst Madueke is playing on the right wing, and they’ll need Saka to get fully fit soon.

The 24-year-old is still not fully fit enough to start matches, but he could take the former Chelsea star’s spot going into the knockout stages.
