Arsenal’s focus on the final weeks of the transfer window remains getting some players off the books.

Andrea Berta has had a busy first summer at the Emirates Stadium and after bringing six new faces through the door, he is now working on exits.

Arsenal have reduced their asking price for Fabio Vieira amid interest from Stuttgart and there are still plans for the likes of Reiss Nelson and Albert Sambi Lokonga to leave the club.

Leandro Trossard is another player that could depart the club before September 1st but Ian Wright is adamant that one Arsenal star must remain.

Ian Wright gets ‘sad’ thinking about William Saliba leaving Arsenal

Speaking on the latest episode of the ‘Arseblog Arsecast’ podcast, former Gunners striker Wright has claimed that he gets ‘sad’ when thinking about the possibility that William Saliba could leave the club.

Saliba is yet to sign a new contract at the club with his current deal running out in 2027 and has been subject to interest from Real Madrid.

Wright stated: “I pray to God that, you know, Saliba, everything happens and he signs. I can’t see why he wouldn’t.

“I don’t know why he’d go now with Real Madrid signing defenders, left, right, and centre. He’s here. He’s here now.

“And I think that this is the place for him. Don’t let me think about William Saliba, because it makes me sad that I’m even thinking he might leave.”

Saliba is happy at Arsenal and the club are optimistic the defender will sign an extension to his current deal.

However, in the meantime, supporters face an anxious time knowing that nothing has been agreed and the Gunners could lose one of the world’s best central defenders.

Ian Wright would ‘pay anything’ for Gabriel Magalhaes to join William Saliba in staying at Arsenal ‘forever’

Speaking on the same podcast, Wright has also heaped praise on Saliba’s centre back partner Gabriel Magalhaes.

The Brazilian defender made his Premier League comeback at Old Trafford after tearing his hamstring back in April in the victory over Fulham at the Emirates.

Wright explained: “And for me, honestly, I would do anything. I would pay them anything just for them to say we’ll stay for the rest of our careers here.

“They are two of the best defenders we’ve ever had at our club. And once they start winning things, which they will, then people will start saying, yeah, I get it.”

Arsenal fans criticised Saliba for his first half display in the win at Old Trafford but the French international recovered well in the second period and helped marshal an opening day clean sheet.

The Gunners pride themselves on being defensively solid and the duo have already shown in the early exchanges of the season that they are up for the challenge once again.
