Edu Gaspar has left his role as the sporting director of Arsenal.

The Gunners have had multiple problems on the pitch since the start of this season. Things have not been ideal at all, and they suffered another setback a few days ago.

Edu resigned as Arsenal’s sporting director on Monday, and the decision-makers at the club now have to find the heir to his throne.

Arsenal fans are excited to see who will get Edu’s job in the coming weeks or months.

Ian Wright makes one demand from Arsenal’s next sporting director

Edu did a fantastic job for the most part at Arsenal.

The Brazilian was the one who appointed Mikel Arteta and started this incredible project at the Emirates. He has been one of the biggest reasons why Arsenal are close to the top again.

Edu deserves all the praise in the world for the work he did at the club and he will definitely be missed by everyone.

But, if there’s one criticism of Edu, it’s that he did not solve the problems Arsenal have in their forward line. Arsenal still need a new striker and potentially another top-quality winger too.

Ian Wright, who follows Arsenal week in and week out, is hoping that whoever replaces Edu will come in and quickly address that issue.

He said on Stick to Football: “Edu leaving was a massive surprise. A bolt from the blue, in respects of where Arsenal are trying to get to and what he’s done with Mikel to get them there.

“He’s gone to a multi-owned club, which is something Arsenal can’t offer him. I just find it strange that when we are getting closer to catching them, to leave now, but maybe it was one of those ultimatums.

“What I’m hoping now is that we can get to the next person who can sort out our front line and sort out the forwards.”

Edu had a five-man striker shortlist for 2025 before he left Arsenal

Arsenal are struggling to score goals at the moment – they have managed just three in the Premier League and the Champions League since the last international break.

The Gunners have to get a new number nine in as soon as possible. January would be ideal but they cannot push it beyond next summer.

Before he left, reports revealed that Edu had a five-man striker shortlist prepared for 2025.

The five names on his list were Benjamin Sesko of RB Leipzig, Dusan Vlahovic of Juventus, Jonathan David of Lille, Sporting CP’s Victor Gyokeres and finally, Inter Milan’s Marcus Thuram.

It remains to be seen if the new sporting director will consider any of the above names when takes Edu’s job at Arsenal.
