Arsenal are just a couple of wins from sealing the Premier League title and Ian Wright has made a bold call when comparing them to The Invincibles.
Leandro Trossard’s late winner and then the VAR controversy with David Raya ensured a huge three points at West Ham and puts the Gunners within touching distance of a first title in over 20 years.
As we know, Arsenal are also into the Champions League final, meaning a historic double could happen.
And according to Ian Wright, this Arsenal team will go down as the best ever if they can beat PSG.
Arsenal Invincibles vs Current Arsenal team: Who goes down as the GREATEST squad if Arsenal do the double this season?
Ian Wright claims Arsenal’s current team could be the best ever
Going a season unbeaten is a remarkable achievement and it shows how hard it is to do given it’s never been done since.
However, former Arsenal striker Ian Wright believes that should the current team go and win both trophies, then they deserve to be named Arsenal’s best ever team.
“If they can win that and win the Premier League and that team, the Invincible team is great as they were as their individuals, this team will surpass them for what they’ve done because they have done something that that team hasn’t done,” Wright said after the game.
“They’ve got to get a lot of credit for that, for what they’ve been through in the journey to get to here with the manager, obviously playing a very good PSG side. It’s going to be a real battle of styles, but they have got themselves there and they deserve to be there.
“They deserve to be where they are now because they’ve gone through it, like I say, for the three years they’ve built this squad.
“They’ve got the players on the bench to help to come on and finish, like Mikel says, and they’ve done it up to this point. So if they can finish it off, which I’m praying that they can, of course they have to go down as the best team in Arsenal history.”
Mikel Arteta deserves huge credit
While many will say The Invincibles are the greatest ever Arsenal team and will never be surpassed, there is an argument to suggest Mikel Arteta’s side will go past them if they do the double.
They have done things in different ways and yes, Arteta has spent a fortune assembling this current squad.

However, the standard of teams in Europe is arguably bigger and better than what the 2004 team came up against and even in Premier League terms, the standard has risen.
If, and it’s a big if, Arsenal do get over the line on this one, then they will have their place in history.
As for which team will be better remembered or the best, well, that debate is one for the fans to have after success is confirmed!
