There’s been a lot of talk about Arsenal and Tottenham’s rivalry in the media recently, but not just because of the upcoming North London Derby.
Spurs face Arsenal next, while the Gunners have three games to play, making the derby a focal point in N17.
That isn’t the whole truth, however, as Spurs are on the hunt for a new manager after sacking Thomas Frank.
It’s because of Frank that Arsenal are being spoken about in relation to their bitter rivals, with Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville now getting involved in the discussion.
If you were Mikel Arteta, what would you be thinking before facing Tottenham now that Thomas Frank is gone?
Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher agree on the difference between Arsenal and Tottenham
Arsenal played a part in Frank’s sacking at Spurs, as the former Tottenham boss was infatuated by the Gunners.
The revelations that followed Frank’s dismissal have been entertaining for Arsenal, with the storyline hitting an almost cinematic climax when Ange Postecoglou featured on The Overlap.
Postecoglou spoke about the difference between Arsenal and Spurs in relation to transfers, and also on the podcast, Neville and Carragher mentioned what separates the two clubs, aside from 11 league titles.
“Arsenal and Spurs, for me, Arsenal are a much bigger club than Spurs,” Carragher said.
If you, as an Arsenal fan, could pick the next Tottenham manager, who would you choose?
The Liverpool icon then reflected on the recent period during which the two north London rivals were both mediocre.
“For a good few years, it was almost like these were both coming sort of fourth and fifth.
“Poch was there, and Arteta was starting, but you did think, if Arsenal get this right, they could win the league, or they could get better each year. I would never think that about Spurs, but what’s the difference?”
Carragher raised a good point, which prompted Neville to share his thoughts.
“I think it’s got to be the ownership, it’s got to be the ownership,” he responded.
Both pundits agreed that there’s a stark difference between Arsenal and Tottenham, with Neville putting it down to how the clubs are run from the top down.
The upcoming North London Derby is going to be fascinating
Arsenal want to be among Europe’s elite, and Tottenham, well, want to be like Arsenal.
That’s the rivalry summarised from an Arsenal point of view, but when it comes to the North London Derby, history is somewhat forgotten for 90 minutes.
Whoever wins the derby takes bragging rights, and on matchday 27, the bragging could hit a new level.
Send us your early North London Derby score predictions, how bold are you feeling?
If Arsenal win, they maintain their dominance over Spurs and remain on course to win the Premier League title.
If Tottenham win, they can prevent Arsenal from slipping up in the title race again.
Simon Jordan has already predicted the North London Derby, stating that regardless of who Spurs bring in, they’ll get ‘pumped’ by Arsenal.
That would be the ideal outcome for the Gunners, who need three points over their rivals now more than ever.
