Arsenal’s win over Fulham inspired Jamie Carragher to take a look into the future of the Premier League title race.
The Gunners beat Fulham by one goal at Craven Cottage to take control of the Premier League table, sitting three points clear.
Only eight games have been played, so Mikel Arteta won’t be thinking too strongly about the title race, but others are.
Chris Sutton thinks it’s Arsenal’s year after watching the North Londoners’ performance against Fulham, but Jamie Carragher has launched a more pessimistic reaction.

Jamie Carragher predicts Arsenal will get nervous in the Premier League title race
Gary Neville thinks the Arsenal squad are feeling confident that they can win the league after finishing as runners-up for three years in a row.
That being said, his Sky Sports co-host, Carragher, doesn’t think winning the league will be plain sailing for the Gunners, as he stressed when analysing matchday eight’s action.
Speaking on the Gary Neville Podcast, the Liverpool icon shared his opinion that Arsenal will start to get nervous when the title race heats up in March and April.
“Arsenal will get nervous in March and April because they haven’t won a league for so long,” Carragher said.
“Liverpool and Manchester City need to make sure they’re not too far out in front where they can’t affect that.”
The pundit fully expects Arsenal to wobble closer to the summer, but it might not actually be an issue.
Carragher turned his attention to the ‘silly points’ Liverpool have been dropping early on, and what it could mean for the title race.
“That’s the thing with Liverpool now losing these silly points, and I think they’ll lose more. They’ve got to keep Arsenal sort of within arm’s length of them.”
Carragher’s predictions were bold but valid to some extent, as Arsenal have crumbled in the summer months in previous seasons.
Arsenal’s March and April Premier League fixtures
In the 2022/23 season, Arsenal’s lack of experience in title races showed, recording three consecutive draws against Southampton, West Ham and Liverpool in April.
That season, Arsenal led the league table for 248 days, only to watch Manchester City win the league, largely due to the crumble in April.
| March | April |
| Brighton (A) | Bournemouth (H) |
| Everton (H) | Man City (A) |
| Wolves (A) | Newcastle Utd (H) |
This campaign, things have to be different, but Carragher suspects it could be more of the same.
In March, Arsenal are scheduled to play Brighton, Everton and Wolves, followed by Bournemouth, Man City and Newcastle in April.
The fixtures are tough, but will they have an impact as ominous as Carragher expects? Only time will tell.
