Jamie Carragher spotted something ‘telling’ about Arsenal right after Aston Villa’s late winner

Amid the Mohamed Salah controversy, Jamie Carragher found the time to comment on Arsenal’s defeat to Aston Villa.

Carragher has been under the spotlight since Salah’s groundbreaking mixed zone interview.

Some Liverpool fans aren’t best pleased with the Sky Sports pundit after his response to Salah’s claims, and after Monday Night Football, neither are some Arsenal fans.

Carragher has spoken strongly about Arsenal all season, and during a dramatic instalment of Monday Night Football, the Liverpool icon passed judgment on the Gunners that roused some fans.

Jamie Carragher didn’t like how Arsenal reacted to conceding Aston Villa’s late winner

It wasn’t long ago that Carragher warned Arsenal about Manchester City, due to how previous seasons have played out.

The narrative behind his warning was about how emotional Mikel Arteta’s side are when the pressure is on, something he believes was on show against Aston Villa.

Strangely, it wasn’t what happened before the goal that prompted Carragher to comment, but what happened after.

Jamie Carragher wasn’t a fan of Arsenal’s reaction to Aston Villa’s match-winner, what did you make of it?

“Yes, it’s a big blow, but it almost feels like some of the Arsenal players feel like they’ve lost a cup final,” Carragher said, focusing on Arsenal’s reaction to the late goal.

Arsenal were crestfallen when Villa scored in the final second, which was to be expected; however, Carragher had a different view.

“Don’t get carried away. You lost the game against a very good team who were brilliant at home as well. You lost in the last minute without your two centre-backs.

“It’s not that big a deal. But the reaction there, I thought, was telling about how much they felt they’d lost there in terms of losing that point.”

Carragher felt as though the reactions of the Arsenal squad were telling of the pressures the players are feeling early into the title race.

It was a very peculiar take on the post-goal scenes, as most sides that concede a late goal are blanketed by a feeling of dejection.

What Arsenal fans are saying about Carragher’s comments

As it’s not the first time that Carragher has made a comment about the emotion in Arteta’s squad, some Arsenal fans hit back at the pundit on X.

“He really loves saying how we’re too emotionally invested honestly he never shuts up about it like what were they meant to be happy they conceded late on.”

Another supporter agreed, “Get criticised for not caring enough. Get criticised for caring too much. They always find something.”

“Struggling to decide what’s worse, his Salah comments or him having an issue with our players being crestfallen at losing in the last minute,” an Arsenal fan added.

Some, however, actually agreed with the pundit.

“He’s right. I hate seeing our players drop to the floor like the league is over. It’s pathetic,” an Arsenal-supporting X user said.

Another wrote, “I don’t think he was criticising us at all. If anything was pointing out we were devastated because it matters to our players.”

Carragher’s comments will split opinion, and certainly have on this occasion, giving Arsenal added incentive to bounce back.
