Jeff Stelling left absolutely shocked after what Troy Deeney said about Viktor Gyokeres

Jeff Stelling thinks Troy Deeney is completely wrong about one statement he recently made about Viktor Gyokeres.

Deeney enjoys sharing his views about Arsenal, though for the North Londoners, his opinions are rarely welcomed.

The striker has recently taken a liking to airing his doubts about Gyokeres, making several claims about how the Swede won’t impress at Arsenal.

Deeney thinks Gyokeres will disappoint Arsenal fans over his first season, but so far, the pundit’s take is miles away from reality.

Jeff Stelling says Troy Deeney is wrong to say Joao Pedro will outscore Viktor Gyokeres

With three goals in four games, the last thing Arsenal’s new striker will be doing is losing sleep over Deeney’s opinion.

One figure who has been rattled by the pundit’s view, however, is Jeff Stelling, who reacted to one of Deeney’s takes on talkSPORT.

Alongside Ray Parlour, Stelling reacted to Deeney’s opinion that Chelsea’s Joao Pedro will outscore Gyokeres in the Premier League this season.

“That’s a blinding statement by the way,” Stelling said.

“Joao Pedro is a good player, not an out-and-out goalscorer; he got 10 goals last season, nine the season before that. If Gyokeres doesn’t get more than that, I will be staggered.”

Pundits have predicted how many goals Gyokeres will score in his first season for Arsenal, but none have gone under the 20-goal mark, let alone ten.

The criticism the Sweden international has received since joining the Gunners is rather comical, as most strikers would be thrilled to score three goals in their first four Premier League games, something Deeney ironically never did.

As Stelling stressed, Pedro is a phenomenal player and is still only 23 years old, with plenty of room to reach an even higher level.

It’s understandable why Stelling was so perplexed by what Deeney said, as there’s no evidence to suggest his claim could be in any way accurate.

Last season, for example, Gyokeres outscored Pedro by a mere 41 goals at club level in all competitions, which is a figure that actually exceeds the amount of goals the Brazilian has scored in his last two campaigns combined.

With 34 games remaining in the Premier League season, there’s still a chance that Pedro does outscore Gyokeres, but if he doesn’t, Deeney has something to answer for.
