If Arsenal fail to win the Premier League title this season, the narrative will be about the attack letting them down.
All season, Arsenal have had it thrown at them that they lack quality in the final third, and to a degree, there is some truth in it.
Of course, it’s hard to make the argument given they’re the second top scorers in the division, but the attackers probably haven’t performed up to the required standard.
Is Declan Rice right or is the Premier League title race DONE?
Gabriel Martinelli, for example, has enjoyed a terrific Champions League campaign, but in the league, he’s netted just one goal.
Viktor Gyokeres, who has netted 12 league goals, has been criticised all season, and now Joe Cole has made a very bold point about the Sweden international.

Joe Cole reckons if Arsenal signed Hugo Ekitike they would’ve already won the title
Speaking on The Dressing Room podcast, Cole explained that if Arsenal had Liverpool striker Hugo Ekitike instead of Gyokeres, they would already have the league wrapped up by now.
“I think if Arsenal don’t win anything, they’ve got that signing wrong with Gyokeres, because you’re thinking you’re coming to the biggest game of the season and you’ve gone with two number 10s, Havertz and Odegaard,” Cole explained.
“Havertz was brilliant, but let’s just imagine Ekitike was signed instead of Gyokeres. I think Arsenal would have won the league by now.”
Interestingly, Ekitike has actually scored fewer goals than Gyokeres in the league and across all competitions as well.
So, there’s certainly no guarantee the Liverpool star would’ve performed any better with the Gunners, who are a bit more pragmatic than Arne Slot’s side.
In reality, the other striker Arsenal could’ve signed last summer was Benjamin Sesko, and he’s not exactly delivered for Manchester United.
So, Arteta clearly could’ve done a lot worse than Gyokeres, but equally, it does feel as though he can be upgraded on this summer.
Atletico Madrid talisman Julian Alvarez has been linked to the Emirates Stadium in recent weeks, so that potential transfer would definitely be an improvement.
