Arsenal remain top of the Premier League table, but many now deem Manchester City as the favourites.

Alan Shearer feels Arsenal will miss out on the title due to their defeat against Bournemouth, rather than the 2-1 loss at Manchester City.

Declan Rice has told his teammates that it’s not over, so despite a deflating couple of weeks, there is still belief around the dressing room.

Mikel Arteta will certainly maintain that optimism, however, a journalist has now suggested that the Arsenal manager could resign at the end of the season.

Mikel Arteta could resign if Arsenal fail to win the title

Speaking on Indo Sport’s YouTube channel, journalist Miguel Delaney has suggested that Arteta could resign if Arsenal fail to win the Premier League title.

“The one thing that I do think could be relevant is given what I’ve heard before about previous times when he’s finished second and this would be the fourth in a row that Arteta has,” Delaney stated.

“He obviously emotionally really pours himself into this, and there is a possibility maybe he gets to the end of the season and thinks like, I can’t go through this again.

“I wouldn’t completely rule that out, I have to say, because I think this does demand a lot of them.”

There have been pundits who believe Arteta deserves to be sacked if his side comes up short once again, so perhaps the board will consider that as well.

Although, that feels very unlikely given how patient they’ve been with the 44-year-old during more challenging times.

The prospect of Arteta resigning is much more believable, and there is a history of that kind of scenario unfolding elsewhere.

Jurgen Klopp, who is equally as emotional as Arteta, announced he would leave Liverpool during the heat of a title race.

The former Reds manager admitted: “I know that I cannot do the job again and again and again and again.”
