Arsenal are being linked with a number of players at this summer’s World Cup and Julian Alvarez has just put himself right at the top of the list.
Alvarez is being linked with Arsenal as the Argentina striker considers leaving Atletico Madrid this summer.
As we all know, so much of the focus for Argentina has been on Lionel Messi this summer and rightly so.
But last night as Argentina beat Switzerland to set up a clash with England, it was the performance – and winning goal from Alvarez – that should have Arsenal fans seriously excited.
Arsenal are being linked with Julian Alvarez…sum up his performance for Argentina last night in three words
Julian Alvarez just put in the best striker performance of the World Cup
We’ve seen Julian Alvarez at Man City and then further down the line at Atletico Madrid and we all know he’s one of the top strikers in world football.
But last night, we saw a performance from a striker that was something of a throwback.
Alvarez was literally everywhere. He played the entire 120 minutes and somehow, never stopped running the entire game.
Alvarez completed a game high 56 high intensity sprints (according to official FIFA data) and he also managed to retrieve the ball a whopping 18 times in between the defensive and midfield third.

In terms of the overall output, Alvarez also ran just under 14km in the game, putting him just below Alexis MacAllister’s team high 14.24km.
Put simply, this was the performance of a striker who is right at the top of his game and at the core of his brilliance was a simple will to win and work ethic we rarely see these days.
To cap it off, Alvarez’s goal to give Argentina the win in extra time was nothing short of extraordinary.
If he is available and the move to Barcelona many are touting does not come off, then Arsenal have been shown exactly what they’re getting.
