Jurrien Timber reveals what he said to Cody Gakpo after Liverpool vs Arsenal fallout

Jurrien Timber was one of Arsenal’s shining lights when the Gunners suffered their first defeat of the season.

Arsenal lost 1-0 to Liverpool in what was an incredibly even game, a contest separated by a moment of magic.

It was a Premier League blockbuster that rounded off the first three games of the season before players dispersed around the globe to attend international duty.

The majority of the Arsenal squad are on September international duty, one of which being Jurrien Timber, who was asked about the clash at Anfield whilst at the Netherlands’ training camp.

Jurrien Timber responds to fallout with Cody Gakpo

Timber was fantastic against Liverpool, but that wasn’t why the Arsenal defender was talking about the match while on duty.

From Virgil van Dijk to Ryan Gravenberch, Timber has many friends from the national team who represent Liverpool.

While their friendships are strong, when they’re on the pitch, the niceties are spared, as was seen at Anfield on matchday three.

Timber and Cody Gakpo appeared to have a squabble, which the Arsenal star has since addressed.

“We’re good friends. That’s how it goes sometimes during the match,” Timber told Dutch media, as per Voetbal Primeur.

The 24-year-old then revealed that the two players actually spoke about the incident while travelling back to their home country.

“I flew back to the Netherlands with him afterwards, and it was all over within two minutes,” he said.

“There was a miscommunication on the pitch. We talked about it briefly, and it was funny.”

It’s good news for Ronald Koeman, who certainly wouldn’t want two of his best players recovering from a fallout while on duty. 

Arsenal rarely miss when it comes to Dutch players

Timber is appreciated by his international teammates, just as he is by those at Arsenal.

Despite only arriving in 2023 and then suffering an ACL injury, it’s already difficult to imagine how Arsenal would look without the Dutchman in their side.

Arteta should’ve known that Timber was going to be a success at Arsenal, given the history of Dutch players who have represented the Gunners.

From Robin van Persie to Dennis Bergkamp, Timber follows a mesmeric group of former Arsenal players to now represent the Netherlands in N5.

Arsenal boast quite the success rate when it comes to homing Dutch players, with Timber flying the flag for his nation at the Emirates.
