Jurrien Timber has now made a brief statement that will please Arsenal fans ahead of the new domestic season.

Jurrien Timber’s first season at Arsenal did not go at all to plan.

The Dutchman arrived last summer from Ajax and immediately got fans excited. Arsenal paid £34 million to sign Timber and he hit the ground running in pre-season.

The 23-year-old looked to instantly settle into Mikel Arteta’s tactical setup, as he was comfortable on the ball and positive in his play. He certainly has all the attributes needed to be a star for the North London club.

Arteta will be a huge fan of Timber’s versatility, as he can slot in comfortably in any position across the back line. Of course, Arsenal fans were unable to really see this aspect of his game last season, as on the opening day of the Premier League campaign last time out Timber picked up an ACL injury.

The 15-cap Netherlands international was sidelined for almost the entire campaign, and did not make another first-team appearance until the final game of the season.

Whilst he was undergoing treatment and rehab, Arteta ensured that Timber still felt involved at Arsenal, as he was often present in the dressing room and attended team meetings.

Ultimately, though, as the cliche goes, he will be like a new signing this season.

Jurrien Timber posts message ahead of new season with Arsenal

Given his unfortunate first term in English football, Timber will be eager to make up for lost time this time around. He is one of the players to have started training at Arsenal with pre-season now underway.

Timber has now taken on Instagram to celebrate the start of the campaign with a five-word statement: “𝑵𝒆𝒘 𝒔𝒆𝒂𝒔𝒐𝒏, thank you Jesus.”

What Arsenal fans can expect from Timber this season

Given he has barely been able to play for the Gunners up to now, it is hard to be certain exactly where Timber features in Arteta’s plans. His versatility means that he can function as a utility player at the back, but he will want to nail down a regular starting berth of his own.

Timber’s best chance of cementing himself as a regular start likely lies at left-back, where none of Oleksandr Zinchenko, Jakub Kiwior, or Takehiro Tomiyasu were able to really establish themselves last season.
