Arsenal attacker Kai Havertz made English top flight history as the Gunners thrashed Sheffield United 6-0 on Monday evening.

Kai Havertz was in fine form as Arsenal destroyed Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.

The German grabbed the Gunners’ fourth goal on the night, as he collected a pass from Gabriel Martinelli before rifling the ball into the bottom corner. After the match, Havertz was commended for the clinical and convincing nature of his finish, as that is an aspect of his game which has been lacking at times this season.

Not only did the former Chelsea man takes his chance well, but he also made history in the process. As reported by Sky Sports, Havertz’s strike against the Blades marked the 150,000th goal ever to be scored in the top flight of English football. It was a landmark goal on a record-breaking night for Arsenal away from the Emirates Stadium.

Havertz really seems to have found his feet at the north London club in the last couple of months, after a challenging start to his Arsenal career. When he was signed in the recent summer transfer window, the 24-year-old was clearly short on confidence.

Mikel Arteta will be delighted with the manner in which Havertz has battled his way into some kind of form over the course of the campaign so far. The Germany international has even managed to prove some of his harshest critics wrong.

Is Kai Havertz now the main man for Arsenal?

Havertz has now scored in each of his last three Premier League outings for the Gunners. If he can maintain this kind of form for the rest of the season then he will have a huge influence on the outcome of the title race. Arsenal are currently locked in a battle with league leaders Liverpool and reigning champions Manchester City for the right to be crowned champions. They will need to be at their very best if they are to stand a chance of coming out on top in this three-horse race.

There is certainly now a strong argument to be made that Havertz ought to be considered Arsenal’s first choice striker ahead of Gabriel Jesus, who returned from injury to make an outing off the bench against Sheffield United.

The Gunners have certainly clicked into gear as an attacking force with Havertz spearheading the attack, as they have racked up 31 goals across their last seven Premier League outings.
