Arsenal drew 1-1 with Everton in their latest Premier League setback but all eyes are now on the upcoming Champions League quarter final with Real Madrid.

Mikel Arteta will be fully aware that Arsenal’s eggs are now all in the European basket and will take heart from the fact that Carlo Ancelotti’s side were beaten 2-1 by Valencia in their latest La Liga outing.

The Gunners can now recover from their exploits at Goodison Park and get set for a monumental night at the Emirates Stadium, where the atmosphere will no doubt be raucous from a passionate home crowd.

So with that said, here’s a look at the latest Arsenal news ahead of another busy day.

Mikel Arteta frustrated with ‘very clear’ penalty decision

Arsenal’s woes with officials and decisions this season continued at Goodison Park as Myles Lewis-Skelly was penalised for a challenge on Jack Harrison that led to a penalty.

Iliman Ndiaye converted the spot kick but after the game, Arteta vented his disapproval at the decision to beIN Sports.

Arteta stated: “We conceded a penalty that in my opinion was not a penalty, very clear.”

Mark Clattenburg disagreed with Everton’s penalty but two more points were dropped by the Gunners in a season where the club may rightly feel that they haven’t had the rub of the green.

Harry Kane campaigns for Leroy Sane to stay at Bayern Munich

Arsenal are interested in signing Leroy Sane on a free transfer in the summer but his Bayern Munich team mate Harry Kane has launched a plea for the winger to stay in Germany.

According to Christian Falk in his Fact Files Kane is campaigning alongside Jamal Musiala for a new contract to be handed to Sane.

Falk stated: “Kane and Musiala are campaigning for him to get a new contract. His chances have improved, as he has performed very well recently. The question that remains: Will Sane accept a reduction in his salary?”

Mikel Arteta provides update on Mikel Merino fitness

Mikel Merino looked to have pulled his groin in the warm up to the Everton clash but shrugged off the niggle to play 90 minutes for the Gunners in the draw.

He suffered a blow to the head during the game as well and after, his manager gave a fitness update on his Spanish star, whose influence is growing during his first season in English football.

Arteta stated: “[Merino] is fine, I just checked with the doctor, he had a cut, so he was bleeding quite a lot in the first half, then he started again, so overall he wasn’t feeling anything.”

Arsenal will want all their available options for the Real Madrid clash and Merino has been in excellent form in front of goal recently.
