Liverpool manager Arne Slot has now confessed his appreciation for two former Arsenal stars.
A number of all-time greats of the game have plied their trade for Arsenal over the years.
The North London club has enjoyed periods of great success in the modern era, most notably when Arsene Wenger was at the helm.
The French coach’s crowning achievement came in the 2003/04 Premier League season, when his Arsenal side won the title without losing a single game in the competition. A number of bona fide Arsenal legends were included in that squad, who were nicknamed the ‘Invincibles’.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot hails Arsenal icons Thierry Henry and Dennis Bergkamp
Thierry Henry was one such Gunners great to make his mark with the Invincibles. The French striker is the club’s all-time leading goalscorer, and struck 30 Premier League goals in that glorious 2003/04 campaign alone.
Henry was often partnered up front by Dennis Bergkamp, and both players made an enormous impression on Liverpool boss Arne Slot.
Bergkamp’s fellow Dutchman, Slot, was speaking to Henry on CBS Sports Golazo when he admitted his admiration for the duo.
Speaking in the wake of the Reds’ 4-0 Champions League over Bayer Leverkusen, he was quizzed about some of his favourite former players.
He said: “I come from an era that I watched Dennis Bergkamp a lot, together with Thierry Henry.”
Both of the former Arsenal stars still have many fans. Chelsea great Didier Drogba recently claimed that Henry should’ve won ten Ballon d’Ors in his career.
What did Henry and Bergkamp achieve at Arsenal?
Henry and Bergkamp were standout players for Arsenal during the club’s golden era, and helped to deliver a succession of titles and triumphs in North London.
As much as their success can be measured in silverware, though, their legacy is a product of the manner in which they played the game. Both players were extraordinarily skilful and pleasing to watch in full flow, as they encapsulated the ethos of attacking, entertaining football instilled at the club by Wenger.
| Arsenal career record (all comps) | Appearances | Goals | Assists | PL titles | FA Cups |
| Thierry Henry | 377 | 228 | 98 | 2 | 2 |
| Dennis Bergkamp | 422 | 120 | 112 | 3 | 3 |
Arsenal have not won a Premier League title since the Invincibles claimed the crown. Mikel Arteta is now endeavouring to end that barren run. The likes of Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard are now seeking to follow in the footsteps of Henry and Bergkamp.
Saka is even on track to break one of Henry’s records. The true measure of the current crop of Arsenal players’ ability to live up to the greats that have gone before them though will depend upon their ability to deliver trophies.
