Long-term Arsenal target left out of starting XI this weekend with ‘things moving behind the scenes’

Arsenal could end up signing nobody this January transfer window but it’s always worth keeping a close eye on those who have had strong links to the club in recent times.

The Gunners squad seems well set and after moving seven points clear of Man City this weekend, Andrea Berta is not expected to be busy.

Indeed, with Marc Guehi joining Man City, it seems there is little in the market to keep Arsenal fans interested.

However, one man who could be on the move is long-time target Quinten Timber.

And according to Fabrizio Romano, it very much looks like Timber could be on his way out.

Quinten Timber left out by Feyenoord as January deal moves closer

Quinten Timber has been on Arsenal’s radar since 2024 and after having huge success with his brother Jurrien, it’s little wonder the Gunners have kept tabs on him.

However, it now looks like Timber could be on the move from Feyenoord.

Fabrizio Romano has shared on his X account that Timber was left out of the starting XI for Feyenoord today as things are apparently moving behind the scenes.

That’s a strong suggestion that Timber will be on his way, albeit there is no mention of Arsenal or the clubs involved.

Coincidentally, Timber came off the bench to set up a goal as Feyenoord lost 4-3 at home to Sparta Rotterdam.

Could Quinten Timber offer much for Arsenal right now?

It’s unlikely to be Arsenal who are the club making the move here but with no mention of anyone, we also can’t rule it out.

In terms of a new signing, Timber would be a smart one for the long-term but for the here and now, he brings an element of risk.

Anyone Mikel Arteta does bring in this month will need to be able to hit the ground running.

With only two goals to his name all season in the Netherlands, it suggests Timber may need a bit of settling in time before realising his potential elsewhere.

Still, if it is Arsenal who are in the mix, then it’s another body and another attacking player who could help the Gunners over the line.
