Arsenal have pulled off quite a few bargain deals over the years.
The Gunners’ management of transfers before Mikel Arteta and Edu Gaspar joined forces wasn’t great at all. From giving ageing players long and lucrative contracts to overpaying for mediocre players, Arsenal did it all.
However, in recent years, Arsenal have been much better on the market, and Edu deserves a lot of credit for all the good work he has done.
Martin Keown has now heaped praise on one bargain signing Edu pulled off not too long ago.
Martin Keown says Arsenal should’ve paid more to sign Leandro Trossard
Leandro Trossard has been one of the best value-for-money signings in the Premier League in recent years.
It’s not often that big clubs in the country get to sign a player from another Premier League side for a small fee, but Edu made that happen in January 2022.
Arsenal signed Trossard for an initial fee of just £20 million, and that figure looks more and more like a bargain each passing week.
The Belgium international has been absolutely amazing for Arsenal. He can play in a number of positions, is always a goal threat and has shown the ability to create chances for his teammates as well.
Trossard is the best finisher at Arsenal too, and fans absolutely love him.
Keown has now delivered his verdict on Trossard, and he feels Arsenal should’ve actually paid more money to sign him than they did.
He said on talkSPORT (September 31, 2024, 12:48 pm): “Trossard, whatever they spent on him, wasn’t enough money. He just keeps giving.”

Trossard’s stats for Arsenal prove what an incredible bargain he has been
Trossard is a dream player for any manager to have.
There aren’t many players in the world who can play in all four attacking positions and have an impact in each of those roles.
Trossard checks that box for Arteta, which is why the Arsenal manager decided to sign him in 2022 after missing out on Mykhaylo Mudryk.
The Belgian has played 75 games for Arsenal in all competitions, 40 of which have come from the start. He has scored 20 goals and provided 12 assists, averaging a direct goal contribution every 114 minutes.
To put that into perspective, Bukayo Saka averages a goal or an assist every 154 minutes at Arsenal.
Trossard is one of the most impressive signings Arsenal have made in recent years, and he is a great example to show that not all good players cost crazy money.
