Martin Odegaard set for international U-turn

After making a quick return from injury, Martin Odegaard is set to join up with the Norway national team over the coming two-week break.

The Arsenal midfielder wasn’t named in the squad that was released earlier in the month, with uncertainty surrounding his ankle issue.

The playmaker was out of action from early September through injury but made his return in the clashes against Inter Milan and Chelsea.

While that was a clear boost, there will be many hoping he can return unscathed from the coming international break.

Norwegian outlet Nettavisen confirmed that the Arsenal star will report to manager Stale Solbakken for international duty, despite being omitted from the provisional squad.

It’s unclear whether Odegaard will play a role in those games or if precautions will be taken over his fitness.

Micah Richards highlights Arsenal transfer concern

Former Manchester City and Aston Villa defender Micah Richards has claimed that Arsenal need to land a striker more than ever.

The Gunners have struggled in recent games, going without a win over their four league games since returning from the previous international break.

There are clear issues for Mikel Arteta to sort out currently but some of them will have to be solved in the transfer market.

Speaking on the Rest is Football Podcast, Richards called for another centre-forward to join the ranks soon.

“I think watching Arsenal now for what, the last two years where they could have gone and won the league, I really believe they need a striker now,” he said.

“I think [Kai] Havertz has done exceptionally well in terms of holding the ball up, the runs that he makes, linking up play, technically very good, worked out.

“He’s got all the attributes for what Arsenal want in terms of the way they want to press and the way they want to set up.

“But just sometimes, I think that they need a poacher, they need that striker’s instinct at times where you can go missing for 80 minutes of the game – but in the vital moment, you just get that goal.

“I just think that’s what Arsenal are missing.”

Ian Wright questions Arsenal star’s involvement vs Chelsea

Ex-Arsenal forward Ian Wright has questioned Ben White’s defending for the goal after the side’s draw with Chelsea over the weekend.

The Gunners were held to a draw with the Blues in another frustrating result in the hunt for the title this season.

While some players are struggling, Wright has noticed a worrying trend with White in particular on the Wrighty’s House podcast.

“Ben White was way too far out on the right, so he should have pushed back inside, pushed Thomas Partey or Declan Rice across, so then there’s somebody in that massive space when you see the goal.”
