Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard is under pressure to return to his best form this season.

Odegaard struggled to have his usual impact on games last season and was perhaps hampered by an ankle injury he sustained early in the campaign whilst away on international duty.

Arsenal fans believe Ethan Nwaneri could replace Odegaard this season after seeing the Hale End graduate play in the number ten role during the recent clash with AC Milan.

The skipper will be determined to prove doubters wrong and return to the form that saw him become one of the Premier League’s best players. However, the Norwegian shares the fans’ excitement over Arsenal’s latest transfer business.

Martin Odegaard ‘excited’ to play with new Arsenal signing Cristhian Mosquera

Arsenal have confirmed the signing of Cristhian Mosquera from Valencia on a long-term contract and the defender will wear the number three shirt at the club.

Upon arrival in North London, Mosquera was sent a letter from Gunners captain Odegaard, who has revealed he is ‘excited’ to play alongside the Spaniard next season.

Odegaard wrote: “Dear Cristhian, I’m very happy to have you with us. You’re a very talented player and I know you’re going to contribute a lot to the team.

“The group here is strong on and off the pitch and I’m sure you’re going to adapt very quickly. The fans, the energy, the way we play, this club is a very special place.

“If you need anything while you’re settling in, please do not hesitate to let me know. We have big goals this season and having key players like you is what’s going to help us achieve them.

“I’m really looking forward to seeing you in action and building something special together. I’m genuinely excited to play with you.”

Why Martin Odegaard will improve his form for Arsenal this season

Despite his struggles last campaign, there is a quiet confidence around the club that Odegaard could be about to explode next season.

Odegaard will benefit from Viktor Gyokeres arriving in North London as he finally gives the Gunners a threat in behind defences.

The Arsenal playmaker is at his best when he has runners around him and he can find those intricate passes into space.

Noni Madueke is another player that likes to stretch defences with his pace and as opposition defences naturally retreat deeper, Odegaard will have more space to operate in.

With six goals and 12 assists last season, it wasn’t a disastrous season by any stretch of the imagination, but Odegaard knows deep down that he can double those numbers when at his best.

If Mikel Arteta’s side are to end their trophy drought this season, they will need their skipper at his scintillating best.
