Max Dowman has committed his future to Arsenal.

The youngster, who turned 16 at the end of December, is arguably the best player of his age in the world right now. His performances at senior level since pre-season caught everyone’s eye.

Before other clubs could get any hope of signing him, Arsenal convinced Dowman to sign a scholarship deal and also a pre-contract on professional terms that will become active once he turns 17.

That is massive news for Mikel Arteta’s side, and Dowman is delighted as well.

Max Dowman names three Arsenal stars as his role models

Max Dowman joined Arsenal when he was just eight years old.

The attacker came through the ranks very quickly and became a household name by the time he was 13. He played for the higher age groups in the next two years before making his senior debut as a 15-year-old.

Dowman looked incredible against professional players, and everyone who has seen him is adamant that he will become a superstar in the coming years.

For now, the teenager is staying humble, enjoying life and is absolutely delighted to follow in the footsteps of his three role models: Bukayo Saka, Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly.

Speaking to Arsenal’s official website after signing his contract, Dowman said: “This means everything to me and my family. We all support Arsenal, and I really feel like I belong here.

“I’d like to thank all my coaches, teammates and, most importantly, my family and friends, who have got me to where I am today. I’ve been at the club my whole life, so this really means a lot.

“There’s such a clear pathway here, players who have come through our academy, like Bukayo, Myles and Ethan, who all really inspire me. It’s amazing to have role models so close who have experienced the same thing that I have.

“I’m now so excited to continue to work hard with my development.”

Max Dowman injury update

Dowman was getting senior minutes at Arsenal this season and made five appearances.

The 16-year-old would’ve surely played more, but he suffered an ankle injury in December that has kept him out since.

The initial diagnosis was that Dowman would be out until February, and that still seems to be accurate.

Arteta revealed in his press conference on Friday that the youngster is back on the grass and should be available very soon.

The Arsenal manager said: “I think he’s quite close. He’s on the pitch now, he’s doing well, and hopefully we’re going to be able to see him soon.”
