Mikel Arteta has shared his vision for Arsenal after penning a new deal.

Arsenal have now secured Mikel Arteta’s future at the club.

Arteta has now signed a new Arsenal contract that will keep him in North London for the next three years.

This news has been a long time coming. Arsenal have been in talks with Arteta for some time, but the expectation was always that an agreement would be reached and finalised when the time was right.

The timing of this announcement is interesting in and of itself. Just days before the North London Derby, with the Gunners in the midst of an injury crisis, Arsenal may have been seeking to lift spirits by releasing this news today.

Ultimately, though, Arsenal fans are delighted about Arteta’s contract and have every reason to believe that he can continue taking the club forward in a positive direction.

Mikel Arteta makes demand of himself at Arsenal

Arteta certainly has big ambitions when it comes to what he can achieve at the Emirates Stadium.

Speaking to the club’s official website after confirming his extension, he lifted the lid on what he is aiming for in the coming years.

The former midfielder stated: “I would say a lot of major trophies. But at the same time, that is always us and we are unique and we do things in our own way.

“The joy of the people, whether they are the players, the staff, the board, the ownership, or the supporters, that they really feel attached to the club and how we do things.

“For me, this is the biggest value that any club, any brand, can have. Then we have to add trophies to that, for sure, and we will do our best to achieve that.”

What Arteta must do to bring trophies to Arsenal

Arteta has transformed Arsenal into genuine contenders for major honours again.

When he took over the club in December 2019, the Gunners had fallen away from the Champions League places and weren’t anywhere near the Premier League title conversation.

The North London club are now back in Europe’s elite club competition, and have managed title tilts in each of the last two seasons, finishing as runners up on both occasions.

The objective now, clearly, is to go one step better. In order to manage this, though, they will have to maintain a remarkable level of consistency in the face of a gruelling schedule. Arteta has taken Arsenal this far, though, and there is every reason to believe that he has what it takes to push them further. He has now, at least, been granted the time to try.
