Mikel Arteta has provided some team news on several players, including Viktor Gyokeres, ahead of Arsenal’s clash with Sunderland on Saturday evening.
The Gunners travel to Wearside for the first time since the 2016/17 season this weekend, looking to cement their position at the top of the Premier League table.
Manchester City host Liverpool at the Etihad on Sunday afternoon, meaning the Gunners have an opportunity to further pull away from their primary title rivals.
However, Arteta has several injury issues with which to contend, with the likes of Gyokeres, Gabriel Martinelli, Kai Havertz, Noni Madueke and Martin Odegaard all expected to be absent for the visit to the Stadium of Light.
That said, the Spaniard has hinted that at least one of these players could make a surprise appearance in the squad, with Gyokeres arguably the most likely given he’s the most recently injured.
“Havertz, Odegaard, Gyokeres, Martinelli and Madueke not available for tomorrow?” the manager was asked.
“I cannot confirm all of that, but you are not far,” he responded.

Viktor Gyokeres should not be risked if not fully fit
Reports earlier this week emerged suggesting that Gyokeres won’t be back until after the international break.
Given he’s been omitted from the Sweden squad, it would be safe to assume that these reports are accurate.
However, Arteta’s coy press conference response has certainly created some uncertainty. Regardless, the former Sporting striker should not be risked for of a trip to Sunderland.
Mikel Merino scored twice for Arsenal against Slavia Prague, and the Spaniard should be trusted to deliver again up front against the Black Cats.
