Arsenal already have plans in place for the summer transfer window and beyond.
The Gunners are a very meticulously run club, and they always have a strategy in place for the next three or four windows. Arsenal very rarely do anything out of the blue.
Football, however, is a funny game, plans often change for several reasons ahead of a transfer window – some positive and some negative.
Mikel Arteta has now confirmed that the club’s transfer plan has changed for a very positive reason.
Mikel Arteta explains ‘positive’ Arsenal’s transfer plan change
Arsenal have a big summer transfer window coming up.
The Gunners have been working on that window for several months now. Edu Gaspar started the process when he was still at Arsenal, and the work has continued after his departure as well.
Andrea Berta will be Arsenal’s new sporting director, and the Italian has a lot of things to sort out. However, he doesn’t have to work too hard on strengthening two positions.
That’s because of the emergence of Myles Lewis-Skelly and Ethan Nwaneri.
Arteta has admitted that he thought the two youngsters are players who would get very few minutes this season. But, they have played consistently over the last few months.
When asked if that changes Arsenal’s transfer plans, Arteta said in his press conference, as per HaytersTV: “Yeah, but those modifications and squad planning are always very positive because when you predict the amount of minutes that those two were going to play this season, it was going to be a super low number – like tier three or tier four players.
“Suddenly, they start to play some very impressive numbers. So, you have to rethink.
“I think it’s something, again, as I said, super positive because you already have in-house and you don’t have to recruit. So, really good.”
Myles Lewis-Skelly and Ethan Nwaneri may have indirectly done a huge favour to Arsenal
Every Arsenal fan on the planet will tell you that the priority in the summer transfer window is a new striker.
The dream target is Alexander Isak, but he will cost £150 million.
It’s still unclear whether Arsenal will be able to afford that figure, but what’s clear is that the Gunners have saved huge money thanks to Nwaneri and Lewis-Skelly.
Arsenal are set to lose Kieran Tierney, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Jakub Kiwior this summer. If Lewis-Skelly wasn’t there, Arteta would have had to invest in a new left-back – but that’s not necessary now.
The same goes for Nwaneri. Without the Englishman, Arsenal would’ve had to spend money on a backup number 10 who can also play on the right wing.
That saved money could now be used on a new striker – preferably Isak. Nwaneri and Lewis-Skelly are to thank for that.
