After another difficult moment against Newcastle United, many Arsenal fans are now calling for Mikel Arteta to drop David Raya.

Arteta replaced Aaron Ramsdale with the Spaniard at the end of the summer, and the decision has been controversial from the off.

Raya is seemingly envisioned as a superior choice when it comes to his distribution, however, it’s other aspects of his play that are now under scrutiny.

The £30m goalkeeper was caught under Joe Willock’s cross yesterday that eventually led to Newcastle’s controversial winner.

And Arsenal fans are now pointing out that this isn’t the first lapse of judgement Raya has made since he came to the side.

Moreover, a lot of those voices just simply can’t understand why Mikel Arteta views Raya as an upgrade on Ramsdale at Arsenal.

Arsenal fans call for Arteta to drop Raya

Taking to Twitter to express their frustration, one fan said: “David Raya needs to go.”

Another fan admitted that whilst he did believe Raya to be an upgrade on Ramsdale, he thought the keeper was “struggling in areas he’s been phenomenal in prior.”

And there were just a lot of fans stating: “Ramsdale [is a] better keeper than Raya.”

It’s a very tough one, Raya is clearly suffering with the weight of expectation he’s suddenly got at Arsenal.

And whilst it’s difficult for some to see Ramsdale sitting on the bench, the situation may turn even more chaotic were Arteta to switch his keepers again.

It’s a very difficult balancing act, but it clearly was a situation that Arteta desired, and one he believes will eventually improve the club.

Arsenal fans may be split on Raya’s arrival, but they should trust Arteta’s plan, one that has brought the club this far.

Another player who has been the recipient of some criticism following the Newcastle defeat is Eddie Nkeitah.

Supporters are becoming frustrated with the striker’s inconsistent performances this season.

And this situation will no doubt fuel talk of Ivan Toney arriving at Arsenal in January.

The striker has been heavily linked with Arsenal, and it wouldn’t be a surprise if the club accelerated with any interest in the near future.
