Neymar has been showing his appreciation for one player who used to be on Arsenal’s books.
Neymar doesn’t shy away from identifying top talent, being a star who speaks openly about those who have impressed him.
Despite being thousands of miles away in Brazil, Arsenal are one club that the winger has been paying attention to.
Earlier this season, Neymar celebrated Gabriel Jesus’ return to Arsenal training following his year-long layoff due to injury.
Now, another player with ties to Arsenal has been a topic of conversation for the famed Brazilian.
Neymar says former Arsenal star Mesut Ozil is one of the best German players ever
Neymar just appeared on a TikTok for Kings League Germany, where he was asked to name who he believes are the five best German players ever.
Rank their careers from best to worst
🇩🇪
It was a tough question, as Germany has produced some of the best players the world has ever seen, but it didn’t take Neymar too long to complete his own list.
It was unsurprising to see Toni Kroos, Thomas Muller and Bastian Schweinsteiger make the list, but it came as a shock to see Mario Gotze named.
The fifth name nominated by Neymar was former Arsenal star, Mesut Ozil.
It was good to see the playmaker earn recognition as one of the best, as Ozil is known to be underrated in world football.
Ozil retired back in 2023, two years after he was frozen out of the Arsenal squad.
Arteta made the decision to cut ties with Ozil, deciding against registering him in the Gunners’ squads in the 2020/21 season.
It was quite the fall from grace for the German, whose incredible career ended in a way that very few would’ve anticipated.
Neymar once made a comment about Arsenal that was way off the mark
Things might’ve ended badly for Ozil in N5, but Neymar was right to recognise him as one of the best ever.
Give us one sentence to decide: Mesut Ozil, overrated or underrated?
Neymar was spot-on in that regard, but when it comes to other things he’s said about Arsenal in the past, he’s been less right.
In 2018, Neymar made a prediction about Unai Emery’s tenure at the Emirates.
“He will bring good things for Arsenal, which is a really huge club, a really important club in England. I wish him luck,” Neymar said, as relayed by Sky Sports.
The winger’s prediction was wrong, as 18 months into his time at Arsenal, the Gunners let the Spaniard go on the back of a seven-game winless run.
That point of view might’ve been incorrect, but his rating of Ozil won’t be argued by many Arsenal fans.
