Nico Williams has become a household name among Arsenal fans.
The Spanish winger, who plays his football at Athletic Club, is one of the fastest players in Europe. He is electrifying, and on his day, he can win a game on his own.
Arsenal have been heavily linked with a move to sign Williams this summer, and many fans feel he would be absolutely perfect in Mikel Arteta’s system.
However, Williams has now admitted that another winger who has been linked with Arsenal is quicker than him.
Nico Williams says Arsenal target Leroy Sane is faster than him
Leroy Sane has been linked with a move to Arsenal too.
The Germany international made a tremendous name for himself in the Premier League when he was at Manchester City. He was a star under Pep Guardiola there.
Arteta worked with Sane at City too, and the Arsenal manager knows his qualities better than most other people in the footballing world.
Reports have claimed that Arsenal want to sign Sane this summer, when his contract at Bayern Munich will expire and he will become a free agent.
Most Arsenal fans will surely prefer Williams, but the Spain Euro 2024 winner has now made a very interesting claim.
On the Europa League’s official social handles, Williams was asked who is faster out of himself and Sane. The Bilbao star picked the German.
The one problem Arsenal could face in the race to sign Leroy Sane
Arsenal will definitely be on the market for a new wide player this summer.
The Gunners need a natural alternative for Bukayo Saka on the right flank, while an explosive option on the opposite side could make a big difference too.
The best option would be to sign someone who can play on both wings, and Sane checks that box. The fact that he will be available on a free transfer makes him an even more appealing option.
However, the German currently earns £280,000-a-week – that’s more than any Arsenal player’s wages.
That could be a problem as Sane will turn 30 halfway into next season – we just can’t see Arsenal handing a huge contract to a player of that age again after all the problems they faced with Mesut Ozil and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the past.
