Arsenal certainly lifted the mood around north London with their feel-good win over Crystal Palace in the EFL Cup.
After making eight changes to his Arsenal team, Mikel Arteta initially oversaw a rather drab performance in the first half, meaning he sought two changes at the break.
Thereafter, Arsenal were pulsating with end product and attacking flair, the kind of performance the Emirates Stadium hasn’t seen for too long.

Kieran Tierney was excellent for Arsenal, but alongside Gabriel Jesus, who bagged a stunning hat-trick, it was Martin Odegaard who really changed the game.
Jesus was running well in the first half but didn’t receive the kind of ball that Odegaard was able to provide twice in the second 45 minutes.

Coming off of the bench Odegaard was able to pick up two assists and reminded everyone in N5 that he is full of end product – he’s not stifling Arsenal’s attacks in any way.
Odegaard was criticised in the aftermath of frustrating draws against Fulham and Everton in the Premier League, comments he didn’t deserve.

And the Norwegian certainly proved a point when matching Aaron Ramsey’s remarkable record that he set against Tottenham all the way back in 2018.
Shared via data guru Harvey Downes on X, Odegaard became the first player to assist two goals as a substitute for Arsenal since Ramsey punished Spurs off of the bench around six years ago.
On that occasion, Arsenal were losing 2-1 at half-time against Spurs when Unai Emery decided to introduce Ramsey and Alexandre Lacazette at the break.
Ramsey then assisted two goals for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and then Lacazette, before Arsenal went on to secure a memorable 4-2 victory.
Odegaard proves his worth to Arsenal after recent criticism
Putting the focus back on Odegaard’s brilliance for Arsenal on Wednesday night, Arteta was stunned by his captain when speaking after the game.
Arteta celebrated Odegaard leading by example with his impact off of the bench, a performance that has earned the Gunners a spot in the semi-final.
Odegaard helped all those around him when he came on, including Jesus who thrived from his through balls.
Jesus admitted his problem at Arsenal despite scoring a hat-trick, and it’ll be interesting to see if he did enough to earn a starting spot in Arteta’s Premier League side to face Palace.
Former Gunner Eddie Nketiah may also be hoping that his superb header was enough to start the game, which will be another big test for Arsenal.
