One Arsenal star just won 100% of his duels in National Team victory, he was the best player

Several Arsenal players are representing their countries across the globe in the International break, and some are continuing to excel.

Arsenal defenders William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes have formed arguably the best centre-back partnership in European football, with the pair thriving at club level.

Their excellent displays this season have seen both players earn starting roles for their National Teams, although Saliba was criticised after France conceded a goal to Israel.

It was a different story for Gabriel, as he lined up alongside Paris Saint-Germain defender Marquinhos as Brazil played away to Chile in a World Cup qualifying match.

Brazil fell behind in the second minute as Eduardo Vargas scored early on, but they fought back to win 2-1 in the final minutes of the game as Igor Jesus and Luiz Henrique found the back of the net.

Despite not contributing to either goal, Gabriel was Brazil’s best player, in another outstanding performance as he continued his fine start to the season.

Gabriel Magalhaes stats in Brazil victory vs Chile

Gabriel was a rock at the back, and he astonishingly won 100% of his eight attempted aerial duels, as the Chile defence could not get past him.

The 26-year-old won both of his attempted tackles, and made four headed clearances and nine recoveries in an outstanding defensive performance.

Gabriel also completed 11 of his 14 attempted long balls, with the defender helping Brazil progress up the pitch, and 10 of his passes found a teammate in the final third.

FOTMOB gave Gabriel a rating of 8.1 out of 10, higher than any other player on the pitch, and he helped restrict Chile to just one shot on target.

Gabriel is hitting new levels of brilliance for Arsenal and Brazil

Gabriel has been one of Arsenal’s best players this season, and he has been decisive in both boxes in the air.

The Brazilian scored away at Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City, and he has been a rock at the back alongside Saliba.

The defender’s aerial excellence was on full display in his defensive masterclass for Brazil, and Gabriel also showed that he, like Saliba, can offer a lot on the ball in build-up play.

Brazil will face Peru in Brasillia on Wednesday, meaning that Gabriel will have a long trip back to London before Arsenal’s next game against Bournemouth, but Mikel Arteta will hope his trusted defender is available for the away trip.
