Viktor Gyokeres has arrived at Arsenal, and he’s looking to immediately make his mark at the Emirates.

Viktor Gyokeres took part in his first training sessions with the Gunners this week, and one of his first sessions was an open workout in front of fans over in Asia.

The striker had a chance to showcase what he was all about to his new supporters in this session, and, at times he did impress.

Indeed, Gyokeres showed great strength at times to hold off defenders, while he scored an absolute screamer at one point too.

However, one concern did pop up during this session.

Key Viktor Gyokeres weakness showcased in training

Hayters TV posted a lengthy video of Arsenal’s open training session, including a lot of highlights for Gyokeres.

However, there were also some lowlights in this video as Gyokeres appeared to struggle with one drill in particular.

The striker was tasked with attacking a few crosses at one point, and it’s fair to say that isn’t necessarily the best part of his game.

Gyokeres mistimed a header before firing two volleys over the bar.

The striker isn’t brilliant when it comes to attacking crosses – he only scored five headers during his time at Sporting, while volleyed goals were scarce too.

Gyokeres is at his best when he’s running in behind defences, and crosses don’t seem to be the best way to service Arsenal’s new number 14.

Arsenal’s crossing stats analysed

Gyokeres doesn’t appear to be brilliant at attacking crosses, and that’s something that Arsenal fans may well be worried about.

Indeed, crossing is a big part of how Arsenal build up their attack, as the stats show.

StatPremier League rank
Crosses per game203rd
Accurate crosses per game4.85th

Arsenal make the third-most crosses of any team in the Premier League and the fifth-most successful crosses of any team in the division.

The Gunners’ centre-forward needs to be scoring from those chances, but, frustratingly, Gyokeres doesn’t appear to be brilliant from those situations.

This is something Mikel Arteta immediately needs to work on with his new striker.
