Arsenal got off to a winning start at Old Trafford but were far from convincing with their performance.

Ruben Amorim’s side dominated much of the game and were perhaps unfortunate not to walk away from the game with at least a point as Arsenal struggled to cope with their physicality and intensity.

Mikel Arteta prides his team on being able to stand up to that challenge but there were gaps all over the park and had David Raya to thank with a string of fine saves.

Arsenal fans were unhappy with Noni Madueke’s performance after he came on as a second half substitute and Owen Hargreaves has singled out one player for having the ‘worst’ game he has seen for a long time.

Owen Hargreaves thinks Bukayo Saka had his ‘worst’ game for Arsenal against Manchester United

Speaking to Stan Sport, former Manchester United midfielder Hargreaves believes that Bukayo Saka had his ‘worst’ game for the Gunners in a ‘long time’ against the Red Devils.

Saka cut a frustrated figure during the game and was often crowded out whenever he was given the ball, Hargreaves was not impressed with the Hale End star.

Hargreaves stated: “I thought Gyokeres struggled, it was probably the worst game I’ve seen Saka play in quite some time. But Wrighty made that point, they found a way to win that game while being second-best.”

Troy Deeney thinks ‘unbelievable’ Saka is integral to Arsenal and their chances of winning the Premier League this season, however Hargreaves was full of praise for another Gunners star.

Hargreaves explained: “First of all I thought it was a fantastic game. Man United were the better team by some distance. I think they had double the shots Arsenal had.

“I think the biggest difference in the game was the goalkeeper, David Raya, he had seven saves, he was Man of the Match. I thought Mbeumo was fantastic and Cunha was a touch of class.”

Bukayo Saka’s match statistics v Manchester United prove Owen Hargreaves was correct

Saka was given just a 3/10 in the Arsenal player ratings v Manchester United and looked like he was still searching for some form and fitness at the start of the campaign.

What was most striking about his performance was the ease with which United dispossessed him at times, usually Saka is the master at shielding the ball and drawing fouls.

The 23-year-old will be looking to bounce back in front of his home supporters as the Gunners clash with Leeds United in their next match.

All that matters for Arteta is the three points to begin a pivotal season in his managerial career, however, he will know that standards of performances must improve.
