Paul Merson says there’s just one dilemma with Arsenal’s starting XI right now

Mikel Arteta has a terrific squad of players to choose from every week.

The Spaniard sealed eight new signings in the summer, and the Gunners now have at least two top-class players in every single position.

When everyone is giving their all and performing at the highest level, picking the starting XI must become very difficult for Arteta.

However, Paul Merson believes 10 players are guaranteed starters, and there is only a debate in one area of the pitch.

Paul Merson says the only dilemma in Arsenal’s starting XI is between Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard

Arsenal’s best line-up is mostly predictable.

The back-five – David Raya, Jurrien Timber, William Saliba, Gabriel Magalhaes and Riccardo Calafiori – picks itself, as does the midfield pairing of Martin Zubimendi and Declan Rice.

Bukayo Saka is a guaranteed starter on the right flank, and summer signing Viktor Gyokeres will get the nod every game as well – at least until Kai Havertz is back.

Then, in the number 10 role, Eberechi Eze gets the nod because skipper Martin Odegaard is currently sidelined due to a knee injury.

That leaves the left-wing role, which is currently between Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard. Merson thinks that is the only dilemma Arsenal have with their starting line-up.

He wrote on Sportskeeda: “Liverpool are not playing well. If 10 people, including me, you and some Liverpool fans sat down and thought of picking their line-up for this weekend’s game, we could all be wrong, and that’s the problem.

“If we do the same with Arsenal, we would actually do well, with the only doubt being whether Leandro Trossard or Gabriel Martinelli starts on the left.

“That’s not the same with Liverpool, and I don’t like it when teams are like that.”

Who should start for Arsenal vs Crystal Palace – Trossard or Martinelli?

Trossard and Martinelli are both in great form at Arsenal right now.

The Belgian has played well recently and even scored the winner against Fulham in the last Premier League game.

Martinelli, on the other hand, found the net against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League on Tuesday.

Both players have done enough to deserve a start in Arsenal’s game against Crystal Palace on Sunday, but if it were up to us, we would go with Martinelli.

Eagles right-back Daniel Munoz loves attacking, and there will be moments in the game where he will leave space behind.

Martinelli, who is rapid, is slightly better equipped to take advantage of that on the left wing, and that is why he gets our nod. It remains to be seen if Mikel Arteta will think the same on Sunday.
