People at Arsenal think one player actually doesn’t earn enough money, they want to pay him more

Arsenal pay their top players very well.

The Gunners currently have the fourth-biggest wage bill in the Premier League, spending a whopping £169,416,000 every year (Fbref).

The likes of Kai Havertz, Gabriel Jesus, Martin Odegaard and Declan Rice are Arsenal’s best-paid players, but many others earn significantly less.

One of them could soon get a pay rise, unless he is sold.

Arsenal think Leandro Trossard doesn’t earn enough money

Arsenal signed Leandro Trossard for an initial transfer fee of just £20 million.

The Belgian has been a very good player for the Gunners and has come up with some important goals over the last few years.

Arsenal have been in talks with Trossard over a new contract for quite some time now, but there have also been rumours that he could be sold.

Sami Mokbel of the BBC has now revealed that Arsenal’s talks with Trossard are not over an extension, but they just want to pay him more money.

However, if a good offer comes in, he could still be sold.

Speaking about the prospect of selling Trossard, Mokbel said on The Latte Firm: “It’s a situation that Arsenal aren’t ruling out. I don’t think they are in a rush to sell him.

“They are talking over a pay rise — I don’t think there is an extension, but certainly a pay rise. I think there is an acceptance at Arsenal that the current deal he is on isn’t a reflection of his output and his importance to the squad.

“There is an acknowledgement behind the scenes at Arsenal that he deserves to be earning more money, and they have looked to rectify that situation.

“But, equally, my understanding at Arsenal is that over the next 12 months, there needs to be one significant outgoing to recalibrate after what has been a big summer of spending.

“If they can get the right money for someone like Leo Trossard, if they can get something like £25-30 million and make some money back or maybe even make a profit, he could be one of those players you actually make a profit on. If you do that, I think that’s pretty good business.

“In terms of his contract talks over a pay rise, I think those are still ongoing. If he does end up staying and there isn’t an acceptance of him going off an offer from a rival club, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him sign that contract, and there will be a financial reward for him to stay.”

What should Arsenal do with Leandro Trossard?

Arsenal are in a tricky spot with Trossard.

The former Brighton man is a very good player to have as a backup, but he is 30 years old already and is by no means in contention to be a guaranteed starter.

The best option for Arsenal in the coming weeks would be to sell Trossard for a decent fee and then reinvest it to bring in either Eberechi Eze or Rodrygo Goes.

We’re sure Arsenal fans will be delighted with either of those signings. We would love any of them as well, but if we had to pick, we’d go with Eze.
