Arsenal completed the £67.5 million signing of Eberechi Eze late last week.
The Gunners had been eager to add someone to Mikel Arteta’s squad who could provide Martin Odegaard with genuine cover and competition, but could also potentially usurp Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard in the pecking order on the left wing.
They identified Eze as the man who fitted this profile, moving swiftly and decisively to secure Crystal Palace’s talisman for a significant fee.
Eze could make his debut at Anfield against Liverpool on Sunday in an early-season title race six-pointer.

Journalist says everyone in football loves Eberechi Eze
Eze became Arsenal’s seventh signing of the summer, joining the likes of Martin Zubimendi, Viktor Gyokeres and Noni Madueke through the door at the Emirates.
The attacking midfielder was released by the Gunners’ academy at the age of 13, while he grew up supporting the North London club.
This made the 27-year-old’s return to N5 something of a romantic transfer, and this was reflected in his wholesome media content after completing the switch.
Eze expressed how he ‘obviously’ wanted to sign for Arsenal, with his warm and charismatic personality said to be one of the traits that attracted Arteta to the player.
“I mean, you won’t find anybody in football who’s got a bad word to say about this player,” journalist James McNicholas said on the latest Arsecast episode.
“I really do think that he is known to be one of football’s good guys, one of the nice guys.
“And I think that little detail about his wife [who is a nurse] tells you about the kind of background and the kind of grounding that he has. That will be one of the things that appealed to Arsenal, I think, his personality.”

What will Eberechi Eze bring to Arsenal on the pitch?
While his friendliness off the pitch will be a bonus to the Arsenal dressing room, fans will be more concerned with what he can bring to Arteta’s team on the pitch.
The England international has three specific attributes that the Gunners lacked last season, which he’ll bring in abundance.
| Eberechi Eze’s Premier League Statistics 2024/25 | |
| Appearances | 34 |
| Goals | 8 |
| Assists | 8 |
| Shots per 90 | 3.48 |
| Expected Goals per 90 | 0.36 |
| Key Passes per 90 | 2.01 |
| Expected Assists per 90 | 0.22 |
| Successful Take-ons per 90 | 2.33 |
As shown by the data above, Eze takes a lot of shots, while he’s also exceptional at carrying the ball and dribbling past opposition players.
Arsenal didn’t take enough shots last season, while they lacked players who were capable of unlocking deep defences through dribbling.
Meanwhile, Eze is also one of the more creative passers in the Premier League, and his ability to create for his teammates will be important to injecting some firepower into what has become a sterile attack at times.
