Arsenal defender Piero Hincapie had to wait until matchday nine to make his Premier League debut for the club.

Hincapie completed his loan transfer to the Emirates with moments to spare in what was a busy deadline day for Arsenal.

The 23-year-old’s career in N5 didn’t start as hoped, as Hincapie was combating an injury, but returned on week nine to make his Premier League debut.

Arsenal fans liked what they saw from Hincapie in his brief spell on the pitch against Crystal Palace, a fixture that was history-making because of the defender’s introduction.

Eberechi Eze wrote himself into Arsenal’s history against Palace, as did Hincapie.

When Mikel Arteta introduced the Bayer Leverkusen loanee in the 82nd minute, he became the first-ever Ecuadorian to represent Arsenal in the Premier League.

The Arsenal man isn’t the only one flying the flag for his country in the English top flight at present, with Chelsea’s Moises Caicedo an international teammate of Hincapie, as is Brighton’s Jeremy Sarmiento, currently on loan at Cremonese.

Fans will be eager to see more of the new arrival in action as Hincapie is highly rated in the Arsenal squad.

It’s not only at Arsenal that the 23-year-old has admirers, as Owen Hargreaves dubbed Hincapie a ‘great player’ following his move to the Premier League.

Mikel Arteta might make a change at Arsenal’s training ground because of Hincapie

Becoming the first Ecuadorian to play for Arsenal in the Premier League would’ve been a great honour for Hincapie, an achievement that could trigger change at the Sobha Realty Training Centre.

Arteta is eager to display all the nations to have represented Arsenal at Colney, calling the idea submitted by a fan a ‘beautiful’ thing.

“What a beautiful idea,” the Arsenal manager said.

“If we can, let’s do it, because I think it will be a great representation of what our football club stands for.”

The flag of Ecuador will now be eligible to feature in Arteta’s proposed plan, with Hincapie making history on his debut.
