Tony Cascarino believes Andrea Berta conducted a piece of business in the summer that has put Arsenal on a ‘different level’.

Berta spent £250 million on eight new players in the transfer window, significantly strengthening Mikel Arteta’s squad.

The Gunners have clearly reaped the rewards for this recruitment, as they currently sit top of the Premier League after seven matches, a point clear of Liverpool.

Having a deeper squad has allowed Arteta to rotate more heavily game by game, which has kept his players fresh and ready for the more challenging tests thus far.

Tony Cascarino praises Eberechi Eze signing

Among Berta’s significant pieces of recruitment was Eberechi Eze.

Arsenal signed Eze for £67.5 million from Crystal Palace in August, in a move which saw the England international return to his boyhood club after being released from the Hale End academy as a teenager.

Eze has started impressively in North London, contributing to the Gunners’ early-season form, scoring once and registering two assists across all competitions so far.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Cascarino praised Arsenal’s addition of Eze, describing the player as ‘fantastic’ and claiming it has taken Arteta’s side to a ‘different level’.

“Eze is a top player and again, he was one of the recruitments that I think have put Arsenal on a different level,” Cascarino said.

“They can utilise him in different ways. He’s a fantastic footballer. You can give him the ball anywhere on the pitch and he’s capable of keeping it and moving it.”

Eberechi Eze will play centrally during Martin Odegaard’s absence

Martin Odegaard suffered another injury against West Ham on Sunday.

The Norwegian went down clutching his knee early in the clash, and was eventually forced off the pitch with this issue.

While it’s not yet clear when Arsenal’s captain will return to action, he left the Emirates with a brace around his knee, which clearly isn’t a positive sign.

The Gunners will need someone to step up in their skipper’s absence once again, and the man to do this is Eze.

The former Palace man was outstanding as a number ten against Newcastle, and has shown that this central role suits him well.

Capable of providing a different kind of threat to Odegaard in this role, Eze has an opportunity to stake a claim to make this his position moving forward, while the Norway international is out.
