Pundit says Arsenal player can still do ‘so much more’ for Mikel Arteta’s team

Robbie Earle believes there’s a player in Mikel Arteta’s squad who can still produce a lot more than he currently is for Arsenal.

The Gunners moved four points clear at the summit of the Premier League table on Sunday afternoon, courtesy of a narrow victory over Crystal Palace.

Eberechi Eze spectacularly pounced on a loose ball inside the box to score his first league goal in a red and white shirt, shortly before half-time, giving the North Londoners all three points at the Emirates.

Despite Arsenal’s excellent form and everything seemingly going for Arteta’s side, Earle still insists that there is an individual who hasn’t come close to reaching his best level yet.

Arsenal spent £67.5 million on Eze in the summer.

The creative midfielder has thus far found the back of the net twice, whilst registering two assists for his new club.

While this is an acceptable return as he continues to acclimatise to new surroundings, Arteta will hope for a lot more from one of his marquee signings moving forward.

Sunday’s positive performance against Palace was a sign that he’s moving in the right direction, although Earle still believes there’s plenty more to come.

Speaking on the 2 Robbies Podcast, the pundit claimed that when Eze gets used to the way Arsenal play and as his confidence grows, he’ll start producing more frequently in the final third.

“I just feel there’s so much more of Eze to come for Arsenal fans when he gets confidence, when he finds a spot, when he gets used to the way they work the ball,” Earle said.

“I just felt like, you know, on a big day for him today, let’s just give him a little mention. You hope to look towards some of that football you’re talking about because when somebody’s in a low block when somebody’s difficult to break down, he brings something different that Arsenal haven’t had.

“I think it’s an important option for him to have on certain days. They drew 14 games, I think it was last season, and that lost them the title.”

Eze has seamlessly slotted into the culture at Arsenal, although performances have arguably not been quite as good as Arteta might have expected.

That said, some of the underlying numbers are still very impressive, albeit the sample size is still relatively small.

Eze is averaging almost three shots per 90 minutes, meaning, despite being somewhat muted in certain games, he’s still been a genuine goal threat.

The 27-year-old is also creating chances for his teammates at a respectable rate, although this is certainly an area of his game that can come up a level.

Arteta will be perfectly satisfied with what he’s seen from Eze so far, although it would be reasonable for him to demand more.
