Aaron Ramsdale’s dad has hit out at Jamie Carragher after the pundit mocked the Arsenal goalkeeper.
There has been plenty of media attention on Aaron Ramsdale since he lost his place in the Arsenal starting XI to David Raya.
Arsenal signed David Raya on loan from Brentford this summer, and are expected to make his move to the Emirates Stadium permanent for a fee of £27 million.
Mikel Arteta handed the Spanish goalkeeper his debut recently against Everton, and has kept his place in the starting line up since, starting against PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League and Tottenham Hotspur in the north London derby.
This has led to plenty of speculation about the future of Ramsdale. As things stand, the 25-year-old wants to stay at Arsenal and fight for his place. However, if he wants to seriously push to be the England No. 1, then he needs to get back to playing regularly at club level sooner rather than later.
The £30 million shot-stopper will feel unfortunate to have lost his starting berth at Arsenal. He has made himself a fan favourite at the north London club since his arrival from Sheffield United in 2021. However, he remains supportive of the club and Raya.

Ramsdale ready to support and fight Raya
Ramsdale was seen applauding on the bench when Raya pulled off a spectacular save against Tottenham. However, Jamie Carragher believes there was a performative aspect to this gesture.
Speaking on Sky Sports, the former Liverpool defender said, “I thought I was at the Oscars. You know when someone loses the Oscar and they start clapping and smiling for the other person. I was laughing when I saw that. He’s [Ramdale] absolutely devastated by it really.”
Ramsdale’s father, Nick Ramsdale, hit out against Carragher’s jibe on Twitter, saying, “You are a Disgrace!! Show some class!! My lad has.”
Ramsdale is a fierce competitor and will believe he can still battle his way back into this Arsenal team. He will take heart from the fact Raya’s distribution was relatively poor against Spurs.
Even though he’s playing a supportive back up role right now, Ramsdale won’t accept that this fight to be the Gunners’ first choice is over.
