Roy Keane thinks Arsenal must regret not signing ‘quality’ star who’s ‘so consistent’

Arsenal fans may be aware that former Manchester United midfielder Roy Keane hasn’t exactly been the club’s biggest fan over the years.

Keane was famous for his frosty battles with Patrick Vieira in the past, and it was brilliant to see two of the league’s best going toe to toe.

That being said, Roy Keane has now given his thoughts on a midfielder that Arsenal must now regret not signing in the past.

It’s certainly no secret that Arsenal have held long-term interest in Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz.

Mikel Arteta is thought to love the Brazilian’s skill set, a player he’s often wanted to bring to the Emirates.

Unfortunately for Arsenal fans, that’s a move that has never materialised.

Roy Keane thinks Arsenal could use a midfielder like Douglas Luiz right now

Speaking live on Sky Sports yesterday, Keane thought Arsenal missed out on a star.

He said: “He turns up every week this player. Never seems to be injured. Quality player. I like him.

“I think he was linked with Arsenal last year. There are no surprises there, with some of the Villa players, you think they can certainly go on to play for a Man United, Arsenal or even Man City, you look at Watkins.

“But I like Luiz. He is consistent. Turns up week in and week out. You know what you are going to get from him. I like a lot about him. Probably lacks that real pace maybe.

“In terms of his decision-making and looking after the ball. Very, very good.”

He’s not wrong

It’s hard not to agree with Keane when watching Arsenal’s performances right now, it’s so obvious how much a midfielder like Douglas Luiz would improve the side.

And in the same breath, you can say the exact same about Brentford’s Ivan Toney.

Keane would probably point out that both the Villa midfielder and Toney would be superb signing for Arsenal still.

And perhaps some fans do still retain hope for the summer window.

Perhaps the biggest frustration right now is how funds could have been better spent last summer.

Both David Raya and Kai Havertz are strong players in their own right, they’re exciting profiles for Arteta to work with.

But would fans prefer that money spent on either Luiz or Toney? Probably so.

That being said, Arsenal may still have a difference maker ready and waiting in their squad
