Mikel Arteta and Ruben Amorim are two of the finest young managers in world football at present.

Both managers have had to overcome adversity in their careers and none more so than this season, Arteta has had to deal with suspensions and Arsenal’s injury crisis whilst Amorim is trying to lift a struggling United side.

Arteta has an incredible record against Manchester United and will be looking to secure Arsenal’s sixth straight Premier League win over the Red Devils as they clash at Old Trafford.

Arsenal fans are furious with Jamie Carragher after he claimed that Arteta is under more pressure than Amorim but the Portuguese manager has been full of praise for the Gunners boss ahead of the game.

Ruben Amorim hails ‘inspiration’ Mikel Arteta

Speaking at his pre match press conference ahead of Arsenal’s clash with Manchester United, Amorim has been speaking highly of his Spanish counterpart before the game.

The United boss was asked about the similarity between his current squad and the Arsenal squad that Arteta inherited when he took over, where big players were viewed as being able to ‘call the shots’ and the dressing room was very much divided.

Amorim stated: “The way that Arteta dealt with that is an inspiration for everybody.”

However, given that the Gunners boss is about to manage his 200th game for the club, Amorim fears that he will not be afforded that same luxury in order to turn things around.

Amorim explained: “I will not have the time Arteta had. I feel that, It’s a different club. So we just need to survive, the players on Sunday and me during these games.”

Amorim knocked Arsenal out of the Europa League in 2023

Whilst he has already enjoyed success against Arsenal this season by knocking them out of the FA Cup on penalties at the Emirates Stadium, Amorim has also got one over Arteta at his previous club Sporting Lisbon.

The Gunners were knocked out of the Europa League at the last-16 stage back in 2023 after drawing 3-3 on aggregate with the Portuguese side before losing on penalties again.

The second leg at the Emirates will be remembered for two reasons, one being an injury to William Saliba that caused a huge dent in the Gunners title hopes.

The second being Sporting’s equaliser on the night as Pedro Goncalves beat Aaron Ramsdale from inside his own half to ultimately knock Arteta’s side off their stride and out of Europe.
