Viktor Gyokeres is set to join Arsenal, and while many are excited about this potential deal, there are some who are wary about this transfer.

Indeed, Gyokeres is unproven at the very top level having never played in one of Europe’s traditional top five leagues, and there are questions around the attacker.

Gyokeres has been scoring for fun as of late, but that is only over in Portugal.

Now, a former Manchester United forward has indirectly made an interesting claim about Gyokeres as he gears up to join Arsenal.

Diego Forlan suggests he’s better than Viktor Gyokeres

Speaking to Futcrunch on TikTok, Diego Forlan has been taking part in a challenge where he compared himself to some modern-day strikers.

The Uruguayan was asked to stay quiet until he heard the name of a striker who is better than him, and, interestingly, he skipped past Gyokeres.

Forlan stayed silent through some big names as he backed himself against the likes of Gyokeres, Edinson Cavani and even Cole Palmer.

However, Forlan was eventually stopped in his tracks when Erling Haaland’s name came up, admitting that the Man City star is the superior forward.

Viktor Gyokeres compared to Diego Forlan

Forlan suggests he was better than Gyokeres, and the numbers on this front make interesting reading it must be said.

Gyokeres’ goal record is much better than Forlan’s, but it must be considered that most of his career has been spent in the Championship and the Portuguese League.

In terms of top-level achievements, Forlan does outshine Gyokeres. After all, he’s won the Golden Boot award in La Liga and a World Cup Golden Ball in his career.

Now, as Gyokeres heads to Arsenal, he gets the chance to cement his legacy as a top player, and he’ll be hoping to fare better than Forlan did in the Premier League.

Indeed, Forlan struggled when he came to England, scoring just 10 goals in 63 matches for Manchester United before making a £2m move to Villarreal where he would become one of Europe’s top strikers.
