Details of Takehiro Tomiyasu’s latest injury have now emerged after the defender missed out on Arsenal’s pre-season US tour squad.
Arsenal star Takehiro Tomiyasu has suffered yet another injury blow.
Arsenal yesterday announced their 26-man US tour squad, before jetting off to America where they will play friendlies against three Premier League opponents. The Gunners will take on Bournemouth and Manchester United in Los Angeles, before taking on Liverpool in Philadelphia.
A number of Mikel Arteta’s first team players are unavailable for this trip. The Arsenal players who reached the latter stages of Euro 2024 and the Copa America are currently enjoying an extended holiday period.
Due to this, plenty of talented prospects from the Hale End academy have been included in the squad. However, Arteta will have wanted as many first team players as possible in the travelling group, so will be deeply frustrated by Tomiyasu’s absence.
Pre-season is a hugely important period, as it allows players to build up a level of fitness that will help them get through the coming campaign, and it is also an opportunity for managers to introduce and experiment with new tactical ideas.

Takehiro Tomiyasu injury details revealed as he misses Arsenal US tour
As reported by James Benge for CBS Sports: “Takehiro Tomiyasu could miss the entirety of his side’s preseason preparations after sustaining a knee injury that kept him from joining the first-team squad on their U.S. tour.
“Initial estimates have him sidelined for two to three weeks, placing his involvement in Arsenal’s warmup fixtures in serious doubt.”
The Japanese international has suffered plenty of injuries in his time at the Emirates Stadium. Since joining the North London club in the summer of 2021, the 25-year-old has managed just 83 appearances for Arsenal, across all competitions.
Arsenal fans were concerned about Tomiyasu’s injury record when he was handed a new contract back in January. The fact that he is now set to miss pre-season, and will therefore already be playing catch up fitness-wise when the season begins, will certainly be a major concern for Arteta.
There can be no doubting Tomiyasu’s talent. When fit and available, he is a reliable and versatile defender who brings a lot tot the team. The fact that he cannot stay fit for an extended period is a frustration, though.
