Arsenal failed to keep the pressure on Liverpool in the Premier League title race as the Gunners drew to Brighton.

After Arsenal’s controversial draw with Brighton at the Emirates served up a lot of talking points, a similar level of drama occurred at the Amex.

Ethan Nwaneri made Arsenal history as he scored against the Seagulls however, things took a turn for the worse in the second half.

On the hour mark Joao Pedro converted from the spot, leaving Mikel Arteta fuming at the decision to award Brighton a penalty, seeing the points shared after a difficult 90 minutes.

William Saliba was penalised for clashing heads with Pedro, resulting in a penalty that Gary Lineker had never seen before.

Fabian Hurzeler thought Brighton deserved the penalty as the Seagulls boss hit back at Arteta’s reaction, in what was another meeting between the two sides packed with controversy.

While the Gunners will feel deflated having failed to move within three points of league leaders Liverpool, attention has to quickly move on to the next game.

On Tuesday, Arsenal host Newcastle United in the EFL Cup semi-final, a must-win first leg that the players are already focusing on.

Taking to Instagram to react to the Brighton draw, defender Riccardo Calafiori made a promise to fans ahead of the cup clash.

“We go again on Tuesday,” the Italian said, something that was echoed by teammate Gabriel Magalhaes

The Brazilian posted an identical message on social media, with it clear that the squad are ready to raise the bar against Newcastle.

Quick turnaround for Arsenal ahead of EFL Cup clash

The Gunners will rightfully feel angered by the decision in the draw with Brighton however, the Arsenal squad must instead turn their attention to performing better.

A repeat of the display at the Amex will not cut it against Eddie Howe’s side, who are in good form and ready to compete for silverware.
