Theo Walcott backs Martin Odegaard to level up at Arsenal
Theo Walcott is backing Martin Odegaard to take his game at Arsenal to the next level when he makes his return to action.
Odegaard has been missing due to an injury, but on Tuesday afternoon, the Arsenal captain was spotted back in training ahead of facing Bayern Munich.
Following Sunday’s North London derby, there has been a fair amount of discussion around whether Odegaard now starts for Arsenal when everyone is fit.
Will Eberechi Eze help Martin Odegaard to improve at Arsenal?
“You can’t forget how good Odegaard is, and that’s the mad truth. But we’ll see a side of Odegaard now that we haven’t seen,” said Walcott.
“I think he’s needed this kick up the backside, I’ll be brutally honest, which is brilliant. It’s happened to Trossard. Trossard is just different now, so I think he’ll do well.”
There had been question marks over Odegaard’s performance before his injury, but the 26-year-old cannot afford to get comfortable with Eze in such form.
Mikel Arteta issues Martin Odegaard injury update before Bayern Munich
Arteta has revealed that Odegaard could return to the Arsenal squad for their Champions League clash against Bayern Munich.
The Arsenal boss has also revealed that Noni Madueke and Gabriel Martinelli are both available for the match.
Who starts in the number 10 role for Arsenal when both fit?
The Spanish coach told the media: “Yes, they [Madueke and Martinelli] are [available], and we’re going to have a meeting now to decide as well on Martin [Odegaard].
“He was very close for the previous game, so we are hopeful that tomorrow he can be in the squad as well.”
