An insight into what one Arsenal star is really like off the pitch has now been provided by those close to him.
Arsenal fans can now gain a greater understanding of what Ben White is really like.
A stark spotlight has been on the Gunners’ right-back in recent days. Gareth Southgate recently revealed that White has asked to not be considered for international selection at this time.
The defender’s decision has been met with fierce criticism from some quarters. Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp did not hold back in expressing his outrage at White, as he launched into a furious rant about the right-back’s decision to snub the Three Lions.
In the face of this backlash, the 26-year-old can rely upon Mikel Arteta to back him up. Arsenal have already shown their tacit support for White, as on the same day that Southgate made his statement, the Gunners confirmed that the player had been handed a new long-term contract. The timing of this announcement was almost certainly no coincidence.
White has always been a consummate professional, and has been a regular starter throughout his club career. In his time at Brighton and Hove Albion, and across loan spells with Newport County, Peterborough United, and Leeds United, prior to his switch to the Emirates Stadium, there were no signs of him falling out with managers or coaching staff. There is a rumour that his poor relationship with England coach Steve Holland played a part in his decision to quit the national team.
What is Arsenal star Ben White really like?
White has been praised by his Arsenal teammates for his “warrior” mentality. He starts virtually every game, even when required to play through pain whilst carrying an injury. He is a reliable and consistent performer. White has also established himself as a fan-favourite at the Emirates Stadium thanks to his mastery of the ‘dark arts.’ He never misses an opportunity to rile up opponents, and in attacking set-piece situations he is the Gunners’ troublemaker-in-chief, regularly tasked with seeking to unsettle the opposition goalkeeper by any means he can get away with.
In a piece published by The Athletic, those “who know” White will confess that he is also a “wind-up merchant off the pitch,” as well. They describe him as having “a dry wit and a cool demeanour.”
Beyond his day-to-day training life as a Premier League footballer, White is said to have “a tight circle of family and friends who support him.”
White recently revealed that it took him a while to feel fully at home at Arsenal. However, as the aforementioned report states, “now he feels settled, White is building bonds with his team-mates. During the recent training camp in Dubai, White and [his wife, Milly] Adams socialised with Kai Havertz, Odegaard and their partners.”
