Arsenal are turning their attentions to their first home Premier League game of the season as they host Leeds United.
Mikel Arteta’s side got off to a winning start at Old Trafford with a 1-0 victory but were far from convincing with their performance.
Owen Hargreaves claimed it was Bukayo Saka’s ‘worst’ game in an Arsenal shirt for a long time and the majority of the Gunners’ squad were off the pace.
Viktor Gyokeres has come under scrutiny for his display after being substituted on the hour mark with little impact on the game. Troy Deeney has claimed his teammate will score more goals this season after watching his debut.

Troy Deeney thinks Kai Havertz will score more goals than Viktor Gyokeres
Speaking on his official TikTok account, Deeney has slammed the performance of Gyokeres against Manchester United and has claimed that Kai Havertz will score more goals this season.
Chris Sutton has backed Gyokeres and feels that the criticism of the Swede has been ‘unacceptable’, however, Deeney has not held back.
Deeney stated: “Then lets get to the elephant in the room. Gyokeres, I told you. I told you, Don’t expect this guy to come in and score 25, 30 goals because he is now in a situation where he is the main man.
“He knows everyone is looking at him, he knows he has to score and if they don’t win the Premier League it’s going to be his fault.
“There’s so much pressure and expectation on him, his runs and his decision-making was very strange against Manchester United. Maybe he was trying too hard.
“But I also think we’re going to be in a situation where Havertz plays more games than Gyokeres. A – the manager likes him, loves him.
“B – they looked better in the second half when he came off but also I weirdly think he might score more goals than Gyokeres.”
Jamie Carragher thinks Arteta will drop Gyokeres when it comes to big games in favour of Havertz but this is the reason that the 27-year-old was brought to the club.
It allows Arteta to change the way Arsenal play depending on the opposition and having two quality strikers can only be a positive.
How Viktor Gyokeres and Kai Havertz compared against Manchester United
Gyokeres was replaced on the hour mark by Havertz on his Premier League debut and failed to really make an impact in the game.
However, there were signs of what Gyokeres will bring to the side, he looked strong up against Matthijs de Ligt and made several intelligent runs in behind the defence.
| Manchester United v Arsenal match statistics | Gyokeres | Havertz |
| Minutes played | 60 | 30 |
| Touches | 22 | 19 |
| Distance covered | 7.7km | 4km |
| Passing accuracy | 44% | 56% |
| Aerial and ground duels won | 3/13 | 5/10 |
Arsenal are expected to stick with Gyokeres in the upcoming clash with Leeds and it is up to their more creative players to provide better service than what he received at Old Trafford.
Martin Odegaard will be the man to find those intricate passes down the sides of defenders for Gyokeres to latch onto and do what he does best – put the ball in the back of the net.
